Following a 30 year career in law enforcement in the UK, Howard Shaw has spent over ten years designing, building and embedding Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) frameworks for organisations, both in-house and as a consultant. This includes terms as Head of Anti-Corruption at a mining company in Africa, and as Chief Compliance Officer at an Independent Power Producer, developing hydropower projects in sub-Saharan Africa.

Howard was involved in British (BSi) and International (ISO) Standards-making for 15 years, firstly with the British Standard on Whistleblowing (PAS:1998); the British Standard in Governance (BS:13500); the British Standard on Procurement Fraud (BS:10501) and, contemporary with the enactment of the UK Bribery Act 2010, the British Standard in Anti-Bribery (BS:10500).

 

Howard was Chair of the BSi Mirror Committee in relation to ISO:37001 the International Standard in Bribery Risk Management, and Head of the UK delegation to the ISO committee that produced ISO:37001.

 

Howard then served as the inaugural Chair of the ISO Technical Committee on Governance producing ISO Standards relating to the Governance of Organisations ISO/TC 309.  Under Howard's chairmanship this Committee produced International Standards in -

 

• Governance of Organisations (ISO:37000)

• Anti-Bribery Management System (ISO:37001)

• Whistleblower Management System (ISO:37002)

• Compliance Management System (ISO:19600 and ISO:37301)

Howard has also served a six-year term as Chair of the Institute of Counter Fraud Specialists.

 

He has delivered investigation training across the globe and undertaken complex investigations around the world.
